Two apprentices join our team…

We are very pleased to have Martin Clements and Katie Gardner, who have joined us on Apprenticeship schemes:

Katie joined us in January this year and has been working in the Sales Department. Katie’s main role is assisting with quotations and some general admin and has settled in well.

Katie says

I still have a lot to learn, but am enjoying my time at Baldwin Boxall. I am currently taking driving lessons and look forward to having a car so that I can drive myself to work and not rely on public transport or lifts from my home in Maresfield! Other things I like to do include going out with friends and I also enjoy frequent trips to the cinema and bowling. I live at home with my two younger sisters, one older sister and two brothers which is always manic but never boring.

For my apprenticeship I have to complete coursework over the year, with observations from my supervisor which includes speaking, listening and recorded questioning. I have had one ICT exam which I have passed – I don’t need to take Maths and English again as I have already completed them as GCSEs. I have five exams left – focusing on working in a business environment and supporting change in a business environment – mainly to show I can complete the tasks expected of me.

Martin joined our Specials Department in October 2013 to assist with the assembly of rack systems.

He says,

I really enjoy working at Baldwin Boxall, I have learnt a lot and feel confident about the jobs I’m doing. I live at home with my family in Framfield and, like Katie, I either have a lift to work or come in by train – but this is fine for now. When I am not working I enjoy playing, and watching, football – I also like to go clay pigeon shooting. I used to go to Uckfield community college and in my final year did a business Btec.

The apprentice company come to see me at work once a month to see how I’m getting on and leave me with the paperwork side of the course. This involves writing about health and safety, communication, working efficiently, working relationships and understanding employment rights and responsibilities. I really happy to say that I have just passed my English and Maths exams.
